AVIATION: Jet engine production

The MINOTAUR 5A is not only a laser cutting machine. For this case a rotating table was installed on the MINOTAUR’s table (left picture). First the slots are cut in the outer ring (right picture). Subsequently the laser cutting head was replaced by a laser welding head. Then the blades are spot welded to the outer ring (middle picture). The advantages are numerous: less thermal stress due to the limited and local heating compared to other welding techniques, faster production time because of the overall limited heating of the piece, higher quality of the spot weld, etc. The MINOTAUR 5A is equipped with a 2.5kW laser.
